Planning

Planning is a vital step in our production of our trailer, magazine cover and poster, as it provides us with an outline and an idea that we can then use as a foundation to our project. It also allows us to stick to a specific design and not deviate to far off of our final synopsis.

Factors to Consider

  • Ask permission from the manager at the golf club (where we will be shooting the bar scene and attack) that we need to film our scenes and make sure that the place is not packed. Also permission to use a prop gun.
  • Ask our teachers for props for example a gun and other weapons as they can provide us with them.
  • Wherever we are filming make sure we don’t have any people around that would accidently get into the shots
  • Weather – as most of our shots are outdoors we need to make sure the weather is good
  • Care of equipment – as our teacher will trust us with equipment we need to make sure one of us has the equipment and takes care also whenever filming they need to bring it.

Shot Planning

Before we finalise our shot list, we first wrote each shot and put them on a big sheet of paper, this is so we can alter each shot easily by moving them about, or getting rid of or adding new shots to the paper easily. It also allowed us to colour code our shots with the post stick notes which are as follows;
Green - Shot
Yellow - Dialogue
Orange - Title/Captions/Idents
Pink - Transition

The first section is our establishing character traits, so we started it at the bottom of the page as there is little action, it is more informative of the story and individual characters. As you can see in the image we have also included our transitions between some shots along with dialogue.

The next stage is the build up to the peak where we get more information as to the narrative of our trailer, this is portrayed in our notes as they start to go up to what will eventually be the peak.
The last section as seen to the right is the peak where we have lots of shots in a row without any breaks from titles are transitions. However we ran out of room on our paper and it had to curve downwards to the end title.

Shot List

Our next step on planning was to get our shot list done, the table below shows the type of shot we will use, along with the description of what will be in that shot and the location it will be filmed out. This helps us with the production of the trailer as we can see what shots we need to do and what shots we need to edit in order.

Production Schedule

Now we have our shot list done we can plan what parts we can film together and whom and what props we need for each filming day. This schedule should help us keep on top of our filming and not fall behind.
In session 1 we have the opening scene of our trailer to film, this will be in the bar at our local Golf Range.
Session 2 will be set in the same Golf Range but in the restaurant part instead. This is the build up to the peak section in our trailer.
Session 3 we have the scene of Rahys' Boss handing over the folder, this would be taking place in an office.
Session 4 would be back at the start of our trailer where we see Rahys jogging, furthermore during the same session we can also get the shot of the car down aswell.
Our final session, session 5 will be the peak of our trailer, this is where we will film all of our quick shots and most could be done within School across several locations.

Draft Sketches

Below are our draft sketches of our possible poster and magazine covers. We done this exercise to help us see what ideas we could use and what our final product may end up looking like. Not only this but it gives us something to work around when we finally get to the production stage of producing these graphics.

Animatics

Our last part of planning was to put all of our storyboards together in a short animatic film. We filmed each shot on our storyboard and from this we put them into our editing software, changed the length of each shot and added our sound (dialogue, music and sound effects) below is our final edit of our animatic. Our second aniimatic we done a voice over explaining what is happening in each shot, this is backed up visually by our storyboards on screen.
